Remedial massage is a complementary therapy which aims to treat muscles that are damaged, knotted, tense or immobile. It is useful for a number of problems that affect the muscles, tendons and bones.

Remedial massage is used to locate and repair damaged areas of the body and speed up the body’s own healing processes. The pressure applied in this healing treatment can either be strong and deep or gentle and shallow, depending on the problem.

Problems with the muscles can trigger or radiate pain to other parts of the body. Remedial massage aims to trace the original reason for the pain, tackling both the cause of the problem and the symptoms.

Deep tissue massage is a massage technique that’s mainly used to treat musculoskeletal issues, such as strains and sports injuries. It involves applying sustained pressure using slow, deep strokes to target the inner layers of your muscles and connective tissues. This helps to break up scar tissue that forms following an injury and reduce tension in muscle and tissue.

It may also promote faster healing by increasing blood flow and reducing inflammation.

Read on to learn more about deep tissue massage, including how it stacks up against Swedish massage and what to expect during a session.

Kahuna bodywork originated in the South Pacific and was used during Rites of Passage as a transformational massage and healing system. It is also known as Hawaiian Temple Style Massage, Lomi Lomi and Aloha massage.
This beautiful form of bodywork provides a holistic approach to healing by balancing the body-mind in its physical, emotional and spiritual dimensions.
Kahuna bodywork is unique in a number of respects. The practitioner uses their hands, forearms and elbows and moves around the table (using flowing Hula and Tai Chi style movements). They work with energy to apply soft and deep tissue massage. Music is played and the practitioner attunes the flow of the massage to harmonise the various rhythms within the clients body, mind & soul.

Lomi lomi is a type of massage long practiced in Hawaii. Rooted in huna (a Hawaiian philosophy centered on achieving harmony in mind, body, and spirit), lomi lomi aims to promote relaxation, improve circulation, address muscle pain and other physical ailments, and provide spiritual and emotional benefits, including the relief of fear, anxiety, and other negative emotions.

One of the goals of lomi lomi massage is to clear blockages in the body's natural flow of energy through the body. As in traditional Chinese medicine, energy blockages are thought to contribute to problems in physical, emotional, and mental health
